Christmas Lunch

Back to normal for Christmas Day lunch at the Mill in 2021! Having asked everyone who planned to lunch with us to make sure they’d had a lateral flow test, 34 of us enjoyed lunch on Christmas Day. A big thank you to everyone who came for lunch, volunteers who prepared and served lunch and of course a big thank you to the local businesses who sponsored the lunch – Plus Dane, Gladman Developments and Chris Beech of Chrisehitzonecongleton.com and the many individual donations from cafe customers – thank you to everyone.

Alongside Christmas Lunch in the café, we also delivered Christmas Meals to around 88 people in their homes on Christmas eve, Thanks to our Meals on Wheels service and volunteers. Thank you again for all of the kind donations and for the time that our volunteers dedicate to helping ensure those in their community, had a loved and special Christmas.

Meal Vouchers

New food scheme launched by the Old Saw Mill
Here at the Old Saw Mill we are acutely aware that there are families and single people in the town who are struggling to make ends meet. The recent cut in Universal Credit, huge increases in energy bills and soaring food prices have meant some people are unable to buy enough food to eat.
We already deliver meals to people isolated in their own homes every Friday and we are launching a new scheme to help families who are going hungry. We have introduced meal vouchers which can be distributed to those in greatest need which entitles them to claim a meal and drink in the café or a takeaway. In order to cover the costs of this initiative, we are asking local residents, organisations and businesses to make a donation so we can cover the cost of the meals.
For example £18 would provide a meal for a family of three but we would be more than happy to receive any amount towards our costs.
If you would like to help out please bring your donation into the Old Saw Mill or make a bank transfer into our account clearly marking it Meal Scheme.

Our Loyalty New Scheme

From 1st February we are launching our new Loyalty Scheme. Yes, we did have one before but it was necessary to close this down due to us changing to a Community Benefit Society whose rules are different and the fact we had to close due to COVID restrictions.

Our new scheme is very similar. You can join the scheme by clicking on the link below and filling in the application form which is also available in the Old Saw Mill. For £3 per month or £35 per year you will get:

A loyalty card to prove you have signed up.
A 10% discount on all food and drinks you purchase in our café
Every month a free gift, typically a cake or biscuit and a cup of tea or coffee to wash it down.
If you eat in the café at least twice a month you will easily get your money back.

If you want more information, next time you are in why not talk to one of our loyal staff who will do their best to answer any questions you have.

Becoming A Share Holder?

If you would like to get further involved and support our work in the local community why not think about becoming a shareholder of the Old Saw Mill. We are currently providing about 80 meals weekly to people in their own homes and are starting a meal voucher scheme to support people who are being badly hit by the reduction in Universal Credit as well as higher energy and food costs.

If you buy shares you will not only get all the benefits of the Loyalty Scheme but also you will be able to attend our Annual Meeting and elect the members of the Board of Trustees. You may even want to become a board member yourself.

An application to purchase shares can be found by clicking the link below or you can pick one up in the Old Saw Mill.

Car Chats and Proggy mats

Cars chat

As a ‘car man’ I find myself having conversations with people about my time in motor sport or at Rolls-Royce and Bentley Cars and wondered whether folks out there would like me to start a Cars Chat Group? If so, tell someone at the cafe and we’ll make 2pm on Thursday cartime. – Peter Aston

Proggy Mat Workshop:

Helen, one of our volunteers, has recently moved to Congleton and is very keen to duplicate a workshop she attended at the Beamish Open Air Museum, she has the resources and materials so that participants would learn how to make a small mat. We are planning the workshop on Saturdays 10am to 2pm starting 2nd April priced £20 including lunch!
