Although the café will be opening again on 2nd December, we are still busy with the Big Heart Lunch Club which is delivering about 45 meals at £6 per meal every Friday to those that are isolating due to COVID or just fancy a day off from cooking. It is run in conjunction with Congleton Town Council who contribute £2 per head for those who are entitled to a discount. The remaining £4 is collected every 5 weeks making it £20.
We have the capacity to produce many more meals so please contact 01260 270350 to join in!
A main meal and a pudding, veggie option available, will be delivered to your door Friday morning chilled ready to microwave or oven heat at a time to suit you!

As long as Government guidelines don’t change we are planning to open again when the lockdown ends on Wednesday 2nd December. We would like to make every day in December Xmas day with all the decorations and scrumptious Xmas food. We therefore plan to have …
Now that Cheshire East is in the High tier and it is likely that people will be inclined to stay at home more and not visit our cafe, we are planning to ramp up our home delivery service again. We are already providing meals on a Friday to people who have requested this through Congleton Town Council. There are many places available on this scheme, contact the Council for details.
We are going to re-start our cake delivery service and also do pies and apple juice/cider in bottles.
We want to gauge how much interest there will be for this service as restrictions are placed upon us regarding meeting other people in cafes.
Please contact us on email@example.com to show your interest.
There will be a Green Living course for 8 weeks on October 13 and ending on December 1, Tuesdays from 1.30 to 3pm and it is open to anyone.
The course will be run by Zoom. If you are dubious about Zoom, it can be demonstrated for you before the course starts. But it’s easy – we e-mail you a link and you click it.
The course is about how individuals can act to prevent climate change, loss of biodiversity, pollution and lots more.
You can contact firstname.lastname@example.org and we will forward your interest to the organisers
After carefully considering the current situation the directors of the Old Saw Mill have concluded that it will be possible to safely produce delicious apple juice again this year. After a bumper harvest last year everyone is hoping for another successful year in 2020, in spite of the pandemic.
We will be receiving apples from local gardens from Tuesday 1st September. Please bring all your spare apples to the Old Saw Mill, Back River Street and leave them in the collection trays behind the cycle rail next to the front door. They can be left there whilst the café is open (9.00am – 3.00pm Mon – Friday) or at weekends.
Astbury Mere visitor centre can no longer receive apples so please don’t take them there.
Our sincere thanks in advance to everyone who supports us by donating apples. Up to 70% of apples grown in this country are left to rot in gardens so let’s buck the trend in Congleton and use them for a good cause.
Last year nearly 3000 bottles of juice and 600l of cider were produced. There are still some left so hurry up and get some before they are gone.”

We have one more week to go for the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, so why not come to the café on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week. You can all have 50% off your food up to a maximum of £10 per person. We are also extending our opening hours to 3pm in anticipation of the rush!
After closing on the 16th March we opened the doors of the café on the 6th July from 9am to 2pm, last orders 1.30pm; Monday to Friday.
We would obviously like to thank all those customers who have been to see us and after 3 weeks we are quite pleased with our progress. From next week our rooms upstairs will also have visitors and so thanks again to them for supporting us.
From 3rd August and throughout August we will be participating in the Government’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme which means that on Mondays to Wednesdays, all our food will have a discount of 50% applied.
