It’s that time of the month again where we are announcing and advertising film night. But this month it seems we are just announcing as we are already at max capacity for the event running Friday 1st September 2023 5:30pm – 9:00pm, for food to be served around 6pm with the film (Brief Encounter) showing shortly after.

A huge thank you to those who have already booked, we look forward to seeing you on the 1st. For those of you that missed out this time, we will be announcing our next film night very soon so watch this space!

Incidentally, should any of you who have already booked find at any stage that you are unable to attend, please let the Old Saw mill know so that your place(s) can go to anyone on the waiting list. This applies to every movie night of course.

About the Film – from John Lindley himself

I could be accused of a pro-American bias in the films I’ve chosen so far for our movie nights. I can’t think why!

11 US films and 1 English picture  Kind Hearts and Coronets – to date seems pretty balanced to me. Well, if our next film isn’t English enough for you, I don’t know what is. I’ll be showing the 1945 romantic classic, Brief Encounter, and, believe me, upper lips don’t get any stiffer than here. An easy target for poking fun at, Brief Encounter has nevertheless endured as one of the finest British films ever made; one that even the hardest of cynics succumb to. Brilliantly played by Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard, this understated love story is a universally recognised gem. Come along and bring tissues.
